Karate Association of Bengal (KAB), proudly participated in the Olympic Day Celebration on 29th June 2025 at Netaji Indoor Stadium (Kolkata).

Karate Association of Bengal (KAB), with its commitment to promoting karate across Bengal under the leadership of Hanshi Premjit Sen (President), proudly participated in the Olympic Day Celebration on 29th June 2025 at Netaji Indoor Stadium (Kolkata).

KAB being the only Karate Association in West Bengal, recognised by Bengal Olympic Association (BOA) and Karate India Organisation (KIO), took part in this event. Thanks to Sri Chandan Roychowdhury (President of BOA) and Sri Jahar Das (General Secretary of BOA) for officially inviting KAB for this wonderful event.

Supervised by Hanshi Joydeb Mondal (General Secretary) and Kyoshi Subhas Mitra (Vice President), members of KAB showcased their oneness with a spirited walk, emphasizing discipline, fitness, and Olympic values. The event fostered sportsmanship and unity, aligning with the Olympic spirit. KAB’s presence underscored their dedication to nurturing talent and contributing to India’s sporting excellence on both national and international platforms.

Bengal Karate secured 26 Medals at 4th KIO National Karate Championship

The West Bengal State Karate team delivered an exceptional performance at the 4th KIO National Karate Championship for Sub-Junior, Cadet, and Junior categories, held from 11th to 15th June 2025 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Facing fierce competition from the best young talents across India, the Bengal team emerged with a phenomenal haul of 26 medals—8 Gold, 10 Silver, and 8 Bronze—securing 5th position overall among all participating states and union territories. Their success was a testament to their discipline, determination, and rigorous preparation.

The Karate Do Association of Bengal extends its heartfelt congratulations to all medal winners, participants, and their families, as well as gratitude to the coaches, officials, and supporters who played a vital role in this grand achievement.

Also pivotal in this success was Hanshi Joydeb Mondal, General Secretary of KAB, who alongside Hanshi Premjit Sen, has worked relentlessly to create opportunities for Bengal’s karatekas on national and international platforms.

PREMJIT SEN APPOINTED AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE REFEREE COMMISSION OF KIO

Hanshi Premjit Sen has been appointed as the Chairman of the Referee Commission of Karate India Organisation (KIO), the only authentic karate association in India.

KIO is an affiliated member of World Karate Federation (WKF), Asian Karate Do Federation (AKF), South Asian Karate Do Federation (SAKF) and Commonwealth Karate Do Federation (CKF). WKF is an affiliate member of International Olympic Committee (IOC), whereas, AKF is a member of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

Hanshi Premjit Sen has been appointed once again at this prestigious post by the Governing body of KIO. Earlier, he held that post for around 6 years and during that period he had produced numerous WKF & AKF level Referees & Judges for India, who had made our country proud. As a result, the Indian players had improved their performances and had been doing well at all the international level official tournaments.

Irrespective of any game, the Referees & Judges set the standard of that particular game, and, Hanshi Premjit Sen had produced some world class international level Referees & Judges by his invaluable experience which he had gathered for years at the international arena.

Hanshi Premjit Sen is the first Bengali to become an A-Grade Referee & Judge of World Karate Federation (WKF) as well as Asian Karate DO Federation (AKF). Moreover, he is also been awarded with the prestigious BRONZE PIN by the WKF for his contribution in the field of Karate Do in the world.

He is also the President of Karate Do Association of Bengal (KAB) and has taken the game of karate in equality with Cricket and Football, in the state of West Bengal. Although he was a member of the Executive Committee of KIO as a Joint Secretary, but his expertise is much needed to enhance the standards of the Referee & Judges.

KARATEKAS OF BENGAL PUT ON A STELLAR PERFORMANCE AT THE KIO ALL INDIA KARATE DO CHAMPIONSHIP AT DEHRADOON

Players of Karate Do Association of Bengal (KAB) put up a commendable performance at the KIO All India Karate Do Championship 2024 at Dehradoon (Uttarakhand) from 8th to 12th May 2024.

Overall, TEAM BENGAL won 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals. The following are the names of the proud winners who represented Bengal at the official event :-

GOLD MEDAL

– Rupkatha Dutta : U-21 Female Kata

– Debayush Mitra, Shantanu Rajbanshi & Aritra Mitra : Junior Male Team Kata

SILVER MEDAL

– Shivam Poddar : U-21 Male Kumite -55kg

– Lopamudra Adhikary : U-21 Female Kumite -61kg

– Raja Rabidas : Junior Male Kumite -50kg

– Bipasha Paul : Cadet Female Kata

– Piuli Maity : Cadet Female Kumite +61kg

BRONZE MEDAL

– Rizong Tamang, Bikram Prajapati & Ayushman Roy : Senior Male Team Kata

– Debanjali Karmakar, Ankaona Das & Sohini Chatterjee : Senior Female Team Kata

– Smritikana Sikari : Senior Female Kumite -50kg

– Saswata Patra : U-21 Male Kumite +84kg

Before the event all the players, coaches and officials representing KAB were given the following by KAB:-

– A Medical Insurance of Rs. 200000/- each for all the players representing Bengal.

– A Sponsorship of Rs. 3000/- each for all the players and 5 (five) officials.

– A Sponsorship of Rs. 5000/- each to all the 4 (four) coaches.

– The Participation Fees of all the players.

– T-Shirts & Tracksuits for the players and coaches respectively.

“Karate Do Association of Bengal has always supported the players, coaches and officials who represent Bengal at the official events. Moreover, it is for the first time that all the players were given a Medical Insurance of Rs. 200000/- each. I am ecstatic with the results and performance shown by the Bengal players at the Championship amongst tough competition.” – Hanshi Premjit Sen (President of KAB).

Hanshi Premjit Sen is the first Bengali to become the Referee & Judge of World Karate Federation (WKF) & Asian Karate Do Federation (AKF) both. He had also achieved the most prestigious “Bronze Pin” awarded by the WKF for his contributions in the field of Karate DO as a Referee.“We are proud of our players who had shown immense grit and determination for this event. KAB had in the past supported all the players and will continue this in the future too. For KAB, there should not be any financial burden for the immensely talented players, to showcase their talent at any level.” – Hanshi Joydeb Mondal (General Secretary of KAB).

Impact and Recognition: Hanshi Premjit Sen’s Contributions to Karate Do

Hanshi Premjit Sen, who is the President of Karate Do Association of Bengal, has been recently awarded with the 8th DAN BLACK BELT by the World Karate Federation (WKF) for his exemplary contributions to the game of Karate Do.

He becomes the first ever Bengali to get recognised by the WKF, which is the apex body for Karate in the world duly recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Hanshi Premjit Sen has put on his immense hard work for more than a decade to earn this prestigious 8th Dan Black Belt by WKF. Not only this, Hanshi Premjit Sen is a person of good repute, who is popular throughout the world for his exemplary contributions to popularize the art of Karate Do. His hard work and sacrifices over the years has earned him this prestigious reward.

PREMJIT SEN ELECTED AS THE JOINT SECRETARY OF KIO

Hanshi Premjit Sen has been elected as the Joint Secretary of Karate India Organisation (KIO), the only authentic karate association in India.

KIO is an affiliated member of World Karate Federation (WKF), Asian Karate Do Federation (AKF), South Asian Karate Do Federation (SAKF) and Commonwealth Karate Do Federation (CKF). WKF is an affiliate member of International Olympic Committee (IOC), whereas, AKF is a member of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

After serving KIO as the Treasurer, Joint Secretary and Chairman of the Referee Commission of KIO, Hanshi Premjit Sen has once again taken the charge as the apex member in the Executive Committee of KIO. Times Bengal Icon Hanshi Premjit Sen – An Inspiration and a Legend in Martial Arts

Legends are people who make an impact in the society and set up a benchmark for those who aspire to achieve a particular thing. Although Bengal is famous for producing sports personalities in the past, who had left their mark on youngsters who dream like their idols, it had also created a spark to achieve big amongst the budding sports person. Be it a cricket legend like Saurav Ganguly or footballer like Bhaichung Bhutia, we all have looked forward to their charismatic and impactful personality always. But, have we ever thought that we will have a personality, who will make an impact and inspire thousands of budding sports persons apart from the glamorous game like cricket or football? That too, in a game of “KARATE”?

Yes, you read it right. And the one who did this is none other than, Hanshi Premjit Sen. He is not only an inspiring sports personality in Bengal but also a successful administrator, holding the post of the President of Karate Do Association of Bengal, which has got lakhs of Karate practitioners in all the districts of West Bengal.

Renowned as “Hanshi,” he epitomises excellence in the domain of martial arts. His remarkable prowess and notable accomplishments have catapulted him to the pinnacle of acclaim. Driven by an unwavering commitment to enhance the martial arts infrastructure, he also contributes as an instructor, imparting his profound knowledge and skills to aspiring students of this revered art form.

Having clinched two gold medals in the esteemed World Cup of Martial Arts, he occupies the esteemed position of an ‘A’ Grade referee and judge for Kumite and Kata in the revered World Karate Federation (WKF), which is an official member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He holds that same portfolio at the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) which is an affiliate of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). As the first Bengali to achieve such commendable feats, he surpasses personal accomplishments alone.

Demonstrating his technical prowess in official Government events like the 33rd National Games in Assam, the 34th National Games in Jharkhand, Khelo India University Games, World Martial Art Games in Switzerland, World Karate Championships, South Asian Karate Do Championships, or the Commonwealth Karate Do Championships, he had seen it all. And at the same time, he had inspired every karateka, not only in Bengal but in India, and made everyone realize the fact that, “one should always aspire to dream big.” He has also been embraced the responsibility of Treasurer in the National Martial Art Games Federation of India. He has also served in various Asian Karate Championships as well as the World Karate Championship for the last 12 years. He ardently believes that those blessed with abundance should reciprocate with society.

Recently, he was conferred with the title of “TIMES BENGAL ICON 2023 : Iconic Personality in the field of Sports – Martial Arts category”. This award was given by The Times Group for his exemplary contributions in the field of Martial Arts.

Accolades like winning this title had set a benchmark for all other sports who had not been in the limelight in the past. And yes, this achievement by him will always remain in the hearts of all the karatekas, whom he represented at the prestigious stage. He has produced several National, South Asian, Commonwealth, and Asian medalists. Currently serving as the President of the Karate Do Association of Bengal, he continues to shape the future of martial arts, leaving an indelible imprint on the discipline he cherishes dearly.
